Life insurance, explained without the sales theatre

Life cover is simple in principle and made complicated in the selling. We start from what your household would actually need if your income stopped, and work back to a policy — rather than starting from a product.

What we look at

Common questions

How much cover do I actually need?

It comes from your numbers rather than a rule of thumb: income to replace and for how long, the mortgage and other debts, what it would cost to raise and educate any children, and what already exists through work. We work through it with you.

Term or permanent?

Term covers a defined period and is the most cover per pound while people depend on your income. Permanent lasts for life and builds value, which suits particular estate and business needs. Most households needing protection start with term.

Is the cover I get through work enough?

It is a good start and it is rarely sufficient on its own — it is usually a multiple of salary, and it generally ends when the job does. That is precisely when it is hardest to replace.

Do I need a medical exam?

Sometimes. Many carriers now offer cover with no exam for suitable applicants, though limits and pricing differ. Because we work with several carriers we can look for the route that fits your circumstances.
